Post picture layout of a few baked treats (bars, cupcakes, bread) that are both gluten-free and vegan.

With the increasing demand for allergen-friendly recipes, there’s no better time for this list. Please reach out if you know of recent gluten-free, vegan baking cookbooks; I would love to add more to my list.

Why Bake Gluten-Free Vegan Recipes?

Perhaps you already avoid gluten and must learn to bake without eggs and dairy. Or maybe you’ve been preparing plant-based recipes and vegan dishes for a long time, but you’ve recently had to eliminate gluten.

Whether you need recipe inspiration for the whole family or are searching high and low for great gluten-free, vegan recipes, trust these bakers to help you make treats with your dietary restrictions in mind.

Some people are gluten-free eaters because of health conditions such as celiac disease, gluten intolerance or an autoimmune disease. For others, their priority is helping the planet and the animals by baking and cooking plant-based dishes with local fresh produce and sustainable whole food ingredients.

Knowing how to bake with ingredients other than wheat and animal products is handy when food shortages occur. Making pancakes or bread recipes without gluten, eggs, or dairy is possible and simpler than one might realize. Plus, you’ll get to try new grains, pseudograins and grain-free ingredients.

And, if some of your family members can eat whatever they want, let them. At some point, they might want to try and eventually appreciate healthier treats with natural ingredients that are also plant-based/vegan and allergen-friendly.

The 2024 Best Gluten-Free Vegan Baking Cookbook List

The listed cookbooks are all gluten-free and vegan, but I love that each offers something unique. Some books focus on healthier recipes, and a few are for people with multiple food allergies. Many recipes have baked goods without refined sugar, oil, corn or legumes (bean-free).

To learn more about gluten-free and vegan ingredients, any of these gorgeous cookbooks with beautiful pictures will be helpful. The best way to know if they are specifically right for you is to view each book on Amazon (or wherever books are sold) and read the cookbook description and sample.

A few raw dessert cookbooks are on this list. Recipes with raw ingredients, specifically gluten-free, vegan treats, can sometimes be labour-intensive. They are often well worth the extra time to make. Those books could be an excellent choice if you’re not allergic to nuts.

Bread recipes without gluten/wheat, eggs, dairy or other gluten-free ingredients can be specific to each person’s dietary requirements and are often what beginner bakers need the most help with. Some bread cookbooks on the list include grain-free recipes, quick bread without yeast, yeasted loaves and gorgeous sourdough recipes.

Choosing Gluten-Free Vegan Cookbooks

Gluten-free and vegan food means different things to people. When baking, some prepare and bake treats with no limit on sugar, oil, or chocolate, to create the sweetest desserts and most irresistible confections possible.

For others, anything baked is done so with a healthy twist. One is not better than the other. You bake for you, the way you like it, with ingredients that are safe for you.

If you can’t have oil, find oil-free recipes. Search for naturally sweet or sugar-free recipes if you don’t like sugary desserts. Many bakers also prepare recipes without peanuts or nuts, so don’t be afraid to ask questions when discovering new recipes.

And, when baking, do you prefer to leave out additives like xanthan gum? Xanthan gum can change and sometimes improve the texture of gluten-free, vegan baked goods. Luckily, it’s unnecessary.

Trying to follow a paleo diet? Tweak the recipes to be vegan paleo; although tricky, it is possible. For inspiration search the web or cookbooks with pegan baked desserts or bread recipes.

Also, many cookbook authors are bloggers. Use the links above to reach out if you have a burning question.

What we have in common as GFV bakers is that we avoid three of the top food allergens: gluten/wheat, eggs and dairy. The remaining recipe ingredients are up to the individual, to ensure the baked good is safe for their unique dietary needs.
